About us

Rochford is a traditional church with a small but friendly congregation and with a commitment to grow. In 2022, the church will be celebrating 200 years of Methodism in Rochford.

We have four Worship Leaders with varied ideas, and the projector is used every week for displaying hymns and Bible readings.

There are good ecumenical links with all local churches and we all take part in the annual Stations of the Cross service at the Roman Catholic church, and we also meet socially in an annual resturant meal together. Since Easter 2016, we have been in partnership with Community Church Rochford to provide Community services for the area.

We have a strong pastoral team who support the Minister in visiting (mainly) our elderly members. We also have a monthly housegroup, meeting in different members homes and from October to April we have a weekly Wesley Guild with its programme based on the four themes and which is open to everybody.

Other outreach includes a successful Table Tennis club, and during December each year we go Carol Singing in elderly persons' residential homes and the Airport Hotel. Alcoholics Anonymous meet each week on the premises and they enjoy singing carols with us round the Christmas tree in the Church.

The Church is also very much involved with support for the local Homeless Centre (HARP).

Due to our partnership with Community Church Rochford (CCR), the premises are well-used giving outreach, forming a Community Hub and, where possible, both churches working together to support some of the many and varied activities. Working with CCR also helps us to identify and implement continuing improvements to our property which is in the Rochford Conservation Area.

At present both churches worship separately, but join together for the occasional special service (because of their numbers, CCR worship at a local school). Over time it is hoped that the Community Hub may result in increased attendance at our Church for Sunday worship.

As many people are aware, the Methodist Church moves its Ministers around every few years. We appreciate a Presbyter who is sympathetic to the Partnership and has an interest in this exciting new venture, who is able to give guidance where necessary, and with a vision to encourage us to spread God's love, but with a light touch, as we are used to looking after ourselves.
