About us

Rochford is a traditional church with a small but friendly congregation and with a commitment to grow. In 2022, the church will be celebrating 200 years of Methodism in Rochford.

We have four Worship Leaders with varied ideas, and the projector is used every week for displaying hymns and Bible readings.

There are good ecumenical links with all local churches and we take part in the annual Stations of the Cross service at the local Roman Catholic church. Since Easter 2016, we have been in partnership with Community Church Rochford to provide Community services for the area.

We have a strong pastoral team who support the Minister in visiting (mainly) our elderly members. We also have a monthly housegroup, meeting in different members homes. We continue to emphasise that all our meetings and services are open to everybody.

Due to falling numbers, our Women's Fellowship had to close, but several ladies still meet and usually join with the Fellowship ay Rayleigh - one of the other churches in the Section we were in recently.

Other outreach includes a successful Table Tennis club, and during December each year we go Carol Singing in elderly persons' residential homes and the Airport Hotel.

The Church is also involved with support for the local Homeless Centre (HARP) and there is a core of people who regularly donate food and personal items for the homeless.

Due to our partnership with Community Church Rochford (CCR), the premises are well-used giving outreach, forming a Community Hub and, where possible, both churches working together to support some of the many and varied activities. Working with CCR also helped us to identify and implement continuing improvements to our property which is in the Rochford Conservation Area.

At present both churches worship separately, but have joined together for the occasional special service (because of their numbers, CCR worship at a local school). Over time it is hoped that the Community Hub may result in increased attendance at our Church for Sunday worship.

As many people are aware, the Methodist Church moves its Ministers around every few years. We appreciate a Presbyter who is sympathetic to the Partnership and has an interest in this venture, who is able to give guidance where necessary, and with a vision to encourage us to spread God's love, but with a light touch, as we are used to looking after ourselves.
